Alec Pupo earned his bachelor’s degree in Bioengineering with cum laude honors from Temple University and his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he is currently completing his intern year in Internal Medicine. He plans to complete his residency in Psychiatry and is passionate about leveraging a multidisciplinary approach in both research and clinical settings to provide comprehensive, holistic care. Alec is particularly interested in how collaborative, team-based models can improve outcomes for patients with complex medical and psychiatric needs, especially in inpatient settings. His current research investigates dysautonomia in schizophrenia.

Clinical psychology doctoral students do not universally have primary or team-based care experiences. Likewise, student healthcare professionals may not interact with clinical psychologists in primary care, as this role is still emerging. Therefore, as a requirement, students in the Clinical PsyD program at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine shadow physicians and their accompanying medical students for four hours in clinic.
