Asmaa Ahmed is a Research Assistant and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing student at Toronto Metropolitan University. Her research focuses on nursing education, the social determinants of health, and immigrant and refugee health, with a focus on advancing equity and culturally responsive care.

Migrant women in Canada —particularly those arriving alone or with dependents— face challenges such as socio-economic hardship, limited social support, and discrimination in the labour market; these co-occurring vulnerabilities can lead some women to engage in sex work for survival. Our research team aimed to examine the health and well-being of migrant women who engage in sex work, highlighting the compounded effects of these intersecting identities and producing implications for an interprofessional collaborative approach to health and social care needs of this population.
