Erin Khang is the Director of Field Education and Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan School of Social Work. Erin received her MSSA degree from the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences at Case Western Reserve University. Her clinical experiences include working at the Cleveland Clinic and University of Michigan Health in solid organ transplant, bone marrow transplant, and pediatric nephrology. Erin was the inaugural Michigan Medicine Social Work Department Diversity Chair and a co-creator and leader for the innovative Healthcare Equity Consult Service. Areas of interest include healthcare equity and interprofessional education and research.

BackgroundSince its inception, the University of Michigan (UM) Center for Interprofessional Education (C-IPE) has recognized a 5th IPE competency unique to UM focused on intercultural humility. Originally adopted from a white paper by the UM Center for Research on Learning and Teaching, its definition and application have undergone revisions.
