Halina Shatravka is a third-year medical student at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine. Prior to medical school, Halina worked on clinical trials in neuro-oncology at Columbia University and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She is a 2017 recipient of the State Department Critical Language Scholarship. Halina is originally from New York City.

Background:Racism in healthcare is a persistent problem that can manifest as overt discrimination or subtly as implicit biases. Historically, systemic racism in healthcare has caused trauma among certain racialized groups and structural barriers to health access further perpetuate racial inequities and disparities.
