Dr Joseph Buhain is the Director of Interprofessional Simulation and Emerging Technology.Dr Buhain is a licensed Respiratory Therapist and a Certified Simulation Operation Specialist. He holds a Doctors Degree in Education and Leadership with emphasis on Management. He has a Master’s Degree in Business Administration and a Bachelors in Health Care Admiration and Cardiopulmonary Science. Dr Buhain is also with the Florida State Guard as the Medical Officer. Previosuly in the Army and Navy serving in Iraq, Afghanistan and countless other missions stateside and overseas as a Medical Officer and combat medic. He has practiced advanced trauma medicine for over 3 decades with emphasis to prehospital management and traumatic respiratory management. He has worked in Florida Hospital, Orlando Regional Medical Center, Mayo Clinic, Olmstead Medical to name a few. His experience yields him components of BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP,ASLS, PEARs and Stop the Bleed through the American Heart Association as Instructor certified. The work in simulation stemmed from the knowledge he attained in Healthcare and Education. This includes 20+ years as the Program Director for Respiratory Therapy at Saint Paul College , Director of Simulation for Florida Southwestern State College and Director for Respiratory of College of Central Florida. In addition, Dr Buhain created and launches a Bachelor’s degree in Concordia University where today, has graduated over hundreds of associated degree respiratory therapist towards a bachelors program. The influence it created launch a venue of academic need and growth in respiratory therapy unlike others around the area. In addition, He currently has two active scholarships in Saint Paul College that donates funds yearly to support students who are seeking a degree in Respiratory Therapy and Veterans in financial need. He volunteers for countless organizations included Wounded Warrior, Homebase, Beyond the Yellow Ribbon, Catholic Charity and the Vet Center at FGCU.

This seminar showcases Florida Gulf Coast University’s (FGCU) Disaster Day Simulation, a dynamic, interprofessional education (IPE) experience designed to immerse healthcare students in the realities of disaster response.
