Karen J. Saewert, PhD, RN, CPHQ, ANEF, is a Clinical Professor at ASU’s Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation and Chair of the Mary Killeen Program for Educational Excellence. A nationally certified expert in healthcare quality, she was inducted as a fellow of the National League for Nursing Academy of Nursing Education in recognition of her leadership and enduring contributions to nursing education. She serves on accreditation and interprofessional education committees, and evaluates nursing education programs for the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, as well as interprofessional continuing education programs for Joint Accreditation. Dr. Saewert advances education-practice integration, championing healthcare quality, safety, and evidence-informed teaching. She fosters capacity-building among faculty, practice, and professional development educators, equipping them to lead and sustain transformative educational practices. Her leadership in interprofessional education and collaborative practice (IPECP) spans network development, program evaluation, applied research, curriculum and instructional innovation, dissemination of scholarly and creative works, and faculty development. With a sustained history of involvement in National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education initiatives and activities, her body of work reflects a systems-level commitment to embedding IPECP across health professions education, to improve care quality, promote equity, and strengthen team-based collaborative practice.
Presenting at the Nexus Summit:
This lightening talk will present how Interprofessional champion faculty, providers, and students from across multiple Arizona State University colleges and programs collaborated to address gaps in knowledge, skills, strategies, and performance related to real-world, team-based care delivery. Recognizing persistent barriers caused by siloed training, the work group explored innovative learning delivery methods to transform traditional approaches to interprofessional education.
