Kelly Karpa, RPh, PhD, FAAPE, FNAP, is a Professor at East Tennessee State University College of Medicine. She is responsible for threading pharmacology across a TBL curriculum. She also serves as Associate Dean for Institutional Effectiveness and Innovation. Karpa is a member of ASPET. She supports pharmacology efforts nationally by contributing to the American Medical School Pharmacology Chairs’ (AMSPC) Knowledge Objectives. Internationally, she is involved with the IUPHAR PEP and the Core Concepts projects. In the interprofessional realm, Dr. Karpa is co-lead for the American Interprofessional Health Collaborative Membership Committee and is a Distinguished Fellow of National Academies of Practice.

This Lightning Talk describes an exercise for 3rd-year medical students- adaptable to other health professions clinical placements – that fosters intentional interprofessional engagement for learners and prepares them for collaborative practice. This active engagement seminar is designed to guide participants through tangible considerations in the development, implementation, and evolution of quality interprofessional education (IPE) at an academic institution or clinical training site.
