Dr. Kimberly Fryer is an obstetric hospitalist with a strong background in clinical research and public health. She completed the UNC Training in Epidemiology and Clinical Trials Fellowship and holds a Master of Science in Clinical Research. As a former Assistant Professor at the University of South Florida, Dr. Fryer led studies on prenatal care access, alternative care models, and care for pregnant patients with opioid use disorder. She is actively involved with the Florida Perinatal Quality Collaborative and teaches foundational obstetrics and gynecology to advanced practice providers through CAMLS, advancing quality care and education in maternal health.

In maternity care deserts—rural regions with limited or no access to obstetric services—emergency departments often serve as the default site for childbirth.
