Leanne Purcell is a Villanova University graduate and current medical student at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, pursuing a career in pediatrics. Before starting medical school, she worked as a clinical research coordinator at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and as a medical scribe at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. A proud Make-A-Wish alum, Leanne now serves on the Young Professionals Board and as a wish granter for the Make-A-Wish Philadelphia, Delaware & Susquehanna Valley chapter.

Research on volunteerism has been shown to increase happiness in medical students; improve self-esteem, self-efficacy, and social connectedness; lead to better well-being; improve physical well-being, decrease stress, and improve overall quality of life in general adult populations. Volunteerism also creates fellowship and fosters community connections.
