Quynlan Duffy and Abbey Cherveny are fourth-year medical students at the Medical College of Wisconsin with a shared interest in pursuing anesthesiology. They are passionate about patient safety, interprofessional collaboration, and quality improvement. Their current work focuses on reducing intravenous catheter complications in the operating room through systems-based interventions.

Background: Intravenous (IV) catheter infiltrations are a preventable complication in the operating room (OR), contributing to delayed treatment, patient discomfort, and increased healthcare costs. A rise in infiltration events at Froedtert Hospital prompted a student-led quality improvement initiative to identify contributing factors and propose strategies to reduce OR infiltration rates.
