Randy Beard is a person in long-term recovery. His sober date is 7/24/19. Randy has decades of lived experience with substance use disorder, homelessness, and incarceration with a lifetime of trauma and mental health issues. He is now a recovery coach, a Certified Residential Medication Aid, Alcohol and Drug Counseling Aide (ADCA), and supervisor at the Holistic Sober Center Holistic Sober Center in Coopers Mills, ME, owner of the Phoenix Sober House. He is also president and founder of Recover2gether, a supportive community for recovery. Randy has testified before the Maine state Legislature, and presented in many venues about his recovery, including the Maine Opioid Summit, the Maine Recovery Action Project, The Rise Recover Live Podcast, told his story to media outlets including the Lewiston Sun Journal and the Maine Morning Star. He has also been a featured presenter for the University of New England’s Center to Advance Interprofessional Education and Practice Knowledge Exchange series, describing how his oral health impacted his recovery.

Presenting at the Nexus Summit:

The Knowledge Exchange (KE) series seeks to fill gaps in topics not typically found in traditional health curriculum, underscoring social determinants of health and the voices of people with lived experience. In our lightening talk we will provide background on how KEs originated, the faculty buy-in they now receive, and the ways in which they successfully expose students from across professions to each other’s knowledge and expertise.
