Dr. Davies is a board-certified Family Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Adult/Geriatric Nurse Practitioner, Associate Professor, and Program Director, Post Graduate PMHNP Certificate Program at Washburn University. She specializes in the care of psychiatrically and medically complex individuals. Her clinical focus includes addressing the needs of older adults, particularly in residential and nursing home settings, working closely with their families and care providers. Her practice includes children and adults receiving services in community mental health settings. She has held a variety of staff and leadership roles within long-term care communities, including Director of Nursing, Administrator, Consultant, and State Nursing Home Surveyor.

Background: Like most states, Kansas has struggled to have enough well-trained nurses and nurse aides to staff our long-term care communities and due to a shortage of nursing faculty, Kansas lacks the capacity to educate enough new nurses to meet the demand for care. While we have effective, evidence-based geriatric models of care, we have a know-do gap in which less than 10 percent of older adults are reached who benefit from these models.
