This lightning talk will explore the possible utilization of Generative AI (GenAI) as functional tool that could facilitate high functioning Rapid Team Formation (RTF) in IPE teams in clinical settings. Within healthcare settings delivery of care is more often than not coordinated through teams of practitioners from different disciplines. Moreover, not all clinical teams have the advantage of previous working relationships. However, a lack of training in team formation, and functionality could be negatively impacted thus impacting patient care and outcomes. An experimental study was designed that assessed team functionality difference between 8 student IP groups in a simulation lab. Both quantitative and qualitative methods were used for data collection. Four RFT team utilized GenAI in discussion of a patient’s health outcome that could be impacted by specific Social Determinants of Health (SDS). They also used GenAI to find community partners that may assist the patient after they were released from the “clinic”. The control teams could use the internet to find the same information. The Lightning talk will discuss the results, future research and implications for utilizing GenAI, Simulation and SDS as a practical, rapid and cost-effective way of training future healthcare practitioners to be able to pivot quickly in becoming high-functioning healthcare teams.
