Melissa Zarn Urankar is an Associate Professor and Chief of Vision Therapy at Southern College of Optometry where she also promotes IPE learning opportunities. She holds clinical assignments in Pediatrics and Vision Therapy including patient care at local in-patient rehabilitation hospitals. She is Board Vice President of the Neuro Optometric Rehabilitation Association. She is a member and the founding Chair of the Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry IPE and Collaborative Practice Special Interest Group, an inaugural Board member of Tennessee Interprofessional Practice and Education Consortium, and previous Co-Chair of the American Interprofessional Health Collaborative’s Mentoring Program Workgroup.

Mentoring serves as an essential tool to facilitate the growth and development of healthcare educators engaged in interprofessional practice and education (IPE).
