This Lightning Talk offers a behind-the-scenes exploration of USF Health’s nutrition-focused Interprofessional Education (IPE) Day, an experiential learning event that engages students in collaborative problem-solving around a patient case grounded in social determinants of health (SDOH). The session outlines key components of event planning, curriculum design, and facilitation strategies, showcasing how IPE Day integrates community-informed care into professional education. Participants will leave with practical tools to begin designing their own IPE experiences tailored to patient populations and challenges relevant to their institutions or regions.

Aligned with Theme 2: Interprofessional Collaboration and Advocacy to Advance the Health of Individuals, Families, and Communities, this talk highlights how IPE Day centers real-world health disparities such as food insecurity and access to care and challenges students to work together to develop advocacy-based, team-oriented solutions. The structure of the event fosters interprofessional respect and shared responsibility, ultimately preparing students to serve diverse communities more effectively.
This Lightning Talk fulfills priority criteria by:

Embedding SDOH and community challenges into the case to promote civic and clinical engagement.

Building interprofessional collaboration and advocacy competencies aligned with team-based care.

Supporting the Quadruple Aim by fostering empathetic, coordinated, and value-based education and practice.

Encouraging practice-education partnerships, as IPE Day intentionally includes students, faculty, and sometimes community organizations in a shared learning experience.

Through this talk, participants will be empowered to bring a similar IPE model to their own settings, enhancing the preparation of health professionals to address population needs through informed, collaborative, and community-centered care.
