Healthcare curricula and education becomes more focused and challenging as students’ progress through their programs to become fully trained clinicians. Similarly, the inclusion of interprofessional knowledge and skills in healthcare curricula should match the development and complexity of students as they progress through their programs. This lightning talk will expand on data collected as healthcare students progress through their programs and focus on IPEC competencies students considered important as their knowledge and skills developed throughout their program. Changes in how students understand interprofessional education and practice may relate to the students gaining better understanding of their practice.

This talk addresses Theme Three: Building the Evidence Base for Interprofessional Practice and Education. An analysis to assessing change in educational development as students gain experience in their practice and knowledge and students’ understanding and perceived importance of IPEC Competencies of Communication and Teamwork will be presented.

The talk will provide critical information about structuring IPE Curricula to meet student learners level of learning, professional skill set and experience in clinical practice as understanding of both IPE and specific programs develop. This holistic approach to IPE education would allow student learners to cognitively combine aspects of their training developmentally, based in practical clinical and educational experience allowing a smooth transition to practice.
